That girl in black.... and other fashion colors

You've heard about her. Most likely you've even seen her. I hear she gets around.

Wah!

Hot Wendy has left for Portland, and I'm sad. She had such an awful time getting out of town, it made me feel so bad. But they got on the road yesterday around 3:30p, and will be there sometime on Friday.

Young Angela is now without a walking partner, so I have a new cause. We meet at six in the a.m., which seems like torture. So far, so good. We'll see how I fare after a month, though. It is a good feeling to start the day with your exercise already done. Especially since we are a bunch of margarita-loving girls. We just call it tea (like ladies tea time), though!

Also discovered mojitos this weekend. Those are quite lovely, as well!

Saw the Shrek movie last week. It was okay. The princesses were more annoying than I had hoped. Best part was the use of a Damien Rice song... even if it was a questionable use of material. Used "9 crimes" while the girls were imprisoned, which I don't quite understand? The song is about infidelity, so why use it whilst damsels distress?

Bought the new Linkin Park CD, I like it well enough. Also preordered the Chris Cornell album, out June 5. I do love that Amazon will just ship it once available. Holding off on the new Maroon 5 album, however. Will have to hear more before I commit.

Otherwise, not anything new and exciting. I forgot to post pictures from monster boy's birthday party... so I'll leave you with one. You might not be able to see... but my loving boy is wearing a Marvel characters shirt. He was a good sport and wore it, since his geeky momma bought it for him.

Alan Moore gets married, and Neil Gaiman has the pictures to prove it. He's a lovely boy.

Neil Gaiman, not Alan Moore. I'm a bit afraid of Alan Moore now, actually.

Tomorrow is monster boy's graduation from junior high. Then it's all Holts, all weekend. Pictures of fun and fear to follow next week.

Recap

Lessee, since I last checked in...

Sunday, May 6-- worked all day at the store, hid from the rain the rest of the night. Sopranos was good, but not great. I still miss Rome.

Monday, May 7-- worked both places. We didn't have near the water concerns of others. Darren ended up with the day off, though, since he couldn't get downtown.

Tuesday, May 8-- think I worked all day, too. Since I asked off for two weekends in a row from the store, I probably was scheduled on.

Wednesday, May 9-- softball night. I'm not supposed to be playing, since I hadn't gone for my three-week checkup yet. But they were short women, and I wasn't in THAT much discomfort. Figured playing second base would keep me from having to throw too much. Managed to take an infield line drive to my left shin. Thankfully didn't aggravate the elbow, though! I'm about over this softball season.

Thursday, May 10-- Go and waste almost an hour at the orthoped office for a five-minute consultation. Says the fracture has not deepen, yet not fully healed. Three more weeks of restriction, no softball. I conveniently forget to mention the night before! Another night at the store. Day didn't totally suck, since we got to wear jeans for free at the office.

Friday, May 11-- Last night at the store before a weekend off. Thankfully a jeans day at the office! Finally remember to call all the family and remind them monster boy's birthday party is the next day. Four teenagers at the bowling alley/go-karts/arcade/putt-putt fun center. There is a reason I booked it at a place with a grill... and more importantly, a bar! Monster boy had a school dance, and was all excited he "got the digits" of a friend to keep in touch over the summer. I won't even start to go into all the anxiety that brings to mind for me.

Saturday, May 12-- party day. Monster wakes up early and is ready to go, understandably. Run last minute errands. Cake isn't ready early, which makes me a bit panicky. Everything works out fine, of course. You spend enough money, and everyone has a great time! Later that evening, we go downtown for Capital City Cruise Night. That was really fun. Lots of shiny and fun cars to look at, a perfect opportunity to get your funnel cake fix, and we ended up running into all sides of the family! Came home by 7 pm and crashed.

Sunday again, Mother's Day. My boys did an awesome job, and I didn't have to cook a thing all day! Bonus.

Last night, accompanied the lovely birthday girl Wendy to the Damien Rice show in KC. Given that it was at Uptown Theatre, it was doubly cool. MUCH larger turnout than I expected, and thankfully very easy parking. All the times I've been there, and just now realized there is a parking lot on top of the apple mart!

Although Damien Rice is advertised as an Irish folk singer... the boy rocked it out! His CDs are much more sedate. While it was disappointing he had a falling out with his female singer, you really wouldn't have realized the songs originally recorded as duets. His cellist even sang a song-- "Yoshimi Battles the pink Robots". As my Seattle brother likes to say about They Might Be Giants.... it was a song too clever for its own good.

Wendy even told me she posted video of her infamous lamp dancer on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwE2P9MRvXE

Degolar knows how to link these, but I'm not part of the l337 kidz. But it did remind me he had previously posted a link to a parody video Alanis Morrisette did of "My Humps". Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZw-8RSyvh8

Now you're all up to date! This week will be full of more work, as I'm off all weekend. The Holts are converging upon Topeka for reunion (and graduations) weekend. I'm not sure if any of us will be the same. I know I won't.... since my boy will be graduating junior high. That means high school next year. And I'm just not that old, yet!

Quickie

It's (and has been) raining like a mother, and I have to work all day at the store... but here's something you can do tonight.

The Topeka area roller derby girls have a bout tonight. Over at the skate rink off Fairlawn and West (it's like 9th Street).
